What is CVET?

The Cardiovascular Engineering and Technology Center (CVET) conducts interdisciplinary research at the intersection of cardiovascular engineering, cell biology, physiology, imaging, and medical device development. Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death in the industrialized world, and sudden cardiac death is often caused by fatal disturbances of heart rhythm known as arrhythmias.

Research in CVET focuses on advancing the fundamental understanding of arrhythmogenesis and developing novel diagnostic tools and lifesaving antiarrhythmic therapies. We pursue both biological and device-based therapeutic strategies, including siRNA-mediated therapy, low-energy electrotherapy for arrhythmia, stretchable and flexible electronic platforms, and AI-edge computing for real-time signal processing, decision-making, and therapy delivery.

Our basic and translational research places particular emphasis on human heart physiology and pathophysiology, providing a clinically relevant platform for new mechanistic insights, therapeutic innovation, and high-throughput screening of drug-induced cardiac toxicity.
